Layton’s Legacy Blog Hop

Good morning everyone and welcome back!!! I am so honored to be a part of Lea Lawson’s special fundraising event blog hop! If you arrived here from Betsy Veldman’s Blog, you are on the right track!!!

Lea has a very touching story and is hosting this fundraiser in honor of her sweet, baby-in-heaven, Layton’s birthday. All the money raised will go towards purchasing Starbucks gift cards for parents who find their little ones in the NICU at The University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital. For more details behind her story and this incredible event, head over to Lea’s blog.

  • PRIZES
  • The Ton is one of many companies sponsoring this event. Specifically, we are giving away a $25 gift certificate to our shop* and a stamp set of choice.
  • *Gift certificate only applies to The Ton branded stamps, dies, ink and gilding.

  • How you can help:
  • DONATE! – directly to Layton’s Legacy YouCaring Fundraiser. For every $5 donated, you will be entered into the drawing for one of the prizes above!! All winners will be drawn from donations made thru the YouCaring Site. **Prizes will be drawn and announced on Lea’s blog on Saturday, May 19th.**
  • SHARE! – I know that not everyone is able to donate, but sharing about the fundraiser gives it more visibility! Please feel free to share the YouCaring Link or this post on all your social media outlets
  • SHOP!
  • Pinkfresh Studio will be donating 10% of TODAY’S sales.
  • CAS-ual Fridays Stamps will be donating 15% of their sales thru May 19th.
  • CREATE! – this is also a card drive, and if you’d like to create a card using the theme/moodboard below, I would love that! I will be including these handmade treasures with the giftcards when I hand them over to the NICU social worker, and my dream is that the NICU will be covered in beautiful creations inspired by Layton!! Link them up HERE, and then please email me (lea@lealawsoncreates.com) to get the address for sending – and note that I will need them to arrive by May 31st.
  • BLOG HOP
  • In addition to a fundraiser, this event also includes a blog hop with some really talented individuals. All creations have been inspired by this mood board put together by Lea.

Here is my project.

My project is a pretty literal take on the mood board. I love the mural on the wall and the color palette. I began by stamping the Mountains layering stamp set with Crystal Pewter, Smoky Quartz & Light Onyx inks. Next, I cut the stamped image with the Mountains Coordinating Die. (I did place the die a little lower, as I didn’t want the white border above my mountains.) The clouds, from the Golf Course set, were stamped with Blue Diamond and Cali Blue inks, before cutting with the Coordinating Dies. For the sun, I used the golf ball die from the Golf Therapy Die set to cut it out, then I ink blended Vanilla Frosted Cupcake and Bleach Blondie inks onto it. The sentiment if also from the Mountains set. It was stamped onto a strip of black cardstock with Versamark, then heat embossed with white embossing powder. White Nuvo Drops and superfine clear glitter were used to give the mountains some snow caps and add some shine to the clouds. The background panel was cut using the largest of the Double Stitched Rectangle Dies (Large) from light blue cardstock. The mountains, sun, clouds and sentiment strip were all adhered with foam adhesive. Finally, I added some birds, from the Palm Tree set, with Noir Ink.

Next up on the hop is the super talented Carissa Wiley.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!!! See you soon!!

  2. I actually said “wow!” out loud when I saw your card! So beautiful! When my husband and I went on a driving vacation across the western part of the United States last fall, we drove through mountains that looked just like this. You captured them perfectly! 🙂 Someone will be so touched to receive this gorgeous card.

  7. I do love mountains, my country (Switzerland) is full of them … and they always bring me strength and peace. May they do the same to the persons who’ll receive this beautiful and heartfelt card <3

  8. WOW !!, Amazing scene, so calm, peaceful and serine. Love the feeling you get looking at it that there is future out there in the world, your little one’s turn will come soon xx

  9. The mountains are amazing on your card! You did a fantastic job replicating the mural on the mood board. It’s a lovely card!

  10. I love the mountains on your card! We live in northwest CT and we have a big picture window in our living room. I can see a lot of our town out it and you can see the hills and valleys and even mountains. It’s a beautiful view like your card. I love why we are having this blog hop but I don’t love that Layton had to live for only a short time. God wanted Layton up in Heaven with him. I might not have the animal stamps and I have to check but I am sure I have the colors. Layton is in Heaven looking down at all of us and smiling.
